PAST TENSE



Past tense is used to express past action when a definite point of time in the past is given, a past habit, and in conditional sentence.


Verb from
            Ø Auxiliary
-          did

Ø Veb past
-          saw
-          read
-          ate
-          came

Time exspression:
-          yesterday
-          last night
-          last week
-          a week ago
-          three years ago
-          the day before yesterday

 Example:
·         Declarative sentences
-          Pattern:
1) Affirmative
    Subject + Verb past + Object + Complement
~ She ate a burger yesterday.
~ I read the Twilight Novel last night.
~ He came here last week.

                  2) Negative
                      Subject + did + not + verb infinitive + Object + Complement
                      ~ She did not eat a burger yesterday.
                    ~ I did not read the Twilight Novel last night.
                    ~ He did not come here last week.

                    3) Introgative
                         § Pattern:
                        a) Yes/No Question
                          Did + Subject + Infinitive + Object + Complement
                        ~ Did you eat a burger yesterday?
                        ~ Did you read the Twilight Novel last night?
                        ~ Did he came here last week?

                        b) Informative Question
                           Wh- + Did + Subject + Infinitive + Object + complemnt
                        ~ What did she eat yesterday?
                        ~ What did you read last night?
                        ~ Where he came last week?
